Home Visits
Parent-Teacher Home Visits at Cherokee
What are Parent-Teacher Home Visits?
You are the expert on your child. Teachers are the experts on the classroom. Home Visits are designed to help parents and teachers 1) get to know each other better and 2) build trusting relationships that support children’s educational success. When families and teachers are on the same team, everyone is happier, and students do better in school.
Where do Home Visits take place?
Most Home Visits take place in families’ homes, but visits can also take place at the park, at the library, at a coffee shop – wherever you are most comfortable meeting.
Who participates in the Home Visit?
Home Visits work best when they are attended by 1) the student and his/her primary caregiver(s), and 2) two school staff (usually a student’s classroom teacher and one other person who knows or wants to get to know your family. Additional family members who would like to participate in the visit are also welcome to attend.
How long are Home Visits?
Home Visits generally take 30-40 minutes.
How do I schedule a Home Visit?
Get in touch with your child’s teacher.
My daughter and I were both excited to meet her teacher outside of the classroom. I thought it was really good that she wanted to get a view of her students…what they like, and what they don’t like. This helps teachers understand their students more. We created a bond during the visit, which has helped my daughter do better in school.
